Love is in the air

Although I have had a glass business for about 20 years, most of what I used to create before moving to North Carolina were custom pieces, commissioned by my customers. I have only recently opened a store front and there’s quite a learning curve! I am grateful for the quiet, post-holiday months to finish up the details that got skipped in order to open in November. There’s painting, creating new displays, hanging artwork on the walls, building a new glass rack (thanks, Scott!) and the electrician and the HVAC guys needed to come back a few times to finish up. At some point, I will be getting a new entrance to the shop but that process is taking its own sweet time. I have also been working on some commissions, including this one for a client’s parents’ 70th wedding anniversary. That’s a huge milestone and I am thrilled to be asked to create something to mark the occasion. This photo shows how the piece looked before I painted on the specifics but a more finished version is on my Instagram. As I was working on it, a funny thing happened: a number of people came into the shop asking if I had any Valentine’s gifts. What? Oh yeah! That holiday is right around the corner and a retail shop should have some unique items available for people who are looking to get gifts. So while I have been creating this custom heart that celebrates a specific couple’s love, I am now switching gears to create other items for people who stop into the shop. I have to get into the groove of gearing up for holidays but everyone has been very kind as I get up to speed. I’ll be posting photos of new pieces as they come out of the kiln so check out my social media or just stop in!
