Stained glass inspired by quilting

One thing I love about creating custom work is all the valuable input I get from my clients. There are a lot of decisions that go into a finished piece; sometimes clients want to be involved with those choices and other times they don’t. Either way is fine with me but I find it especially interesting when they offer ideas which come from their particular background. I’m creating this window for a client who’s a quilter and she wanted it to be constructed with clear textured glass. She decorates seasonally with lots of color so for this permanent stained glass piece in her home, she wanted it to be neutral. When deciding which different textures to use and where to place the ones she liked, we began by discussing the border. She suggested in quilting it’s common to use a striped fabric as an edge so we looked for a clear texture that could mimic a stripe. We decided it would look really beautiful to use that texture again in the curved ribbon that wraps the interior shapes. I have never used this texture in this way and I love the look and, most importantly, so does my client. I’ll post more photos of the work in progress on my Instagram so take a look over there for updates.
