Beryl's frogs.jpg

A few weeks ago, I blogged about the 3 window commission I am creating. I’m still working on that but I took a break one day this week to begin something a bit whimsical. Clients asked me to create a mosaic table so they can have meals on their screened porch at their home in Massachusetts. After some discussion, they decided they wanted the imagery to feature a pond they have on their property which is filled with frogs. They sent me pictures of the frogs and also of some eggs that float in the water in the spring. I decided I wanted to make the frogs and eggs out of fused glass and have the mosaic pieces fill in around them. Because this table is being created from scratch, there are a lot of details to sort through but I felt like just getting the frogs started would be fun. I also came up with the idea to use epoxy resin over the top of the glass which will fill in and look like water. I sent my client an email to update her on the “frogress” of this project and she said they were up there now, enjoying the fresh snow that was falling. Even though that weather report makes it sound like spring is far off, I think the timing will be perfect and the table will be finished and ready for them to enjoy just around the time those eggs start floating in the pond again.
