Well, it’s official— after over 20 years in NJ, we are moving out! We have loved this small town, friends, neighbors, our house, my studio, the schools and all that goes with that, our YMCA… The list of what we love is long but what we’ve wanted for years is closer access to outdoor recreation and warmer winters. We joked that we would love to pick up everything and everyone here and move it all south with us. We recently discovered a place that I think will ultimately give us what we want— Morganton, NC. About an hour east of Asheville and an hour northwest of Charlotte, in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, is a lovely little town with a thriving artist community, great restaurants and breweries, and very friendly people. We fell in love instantly! Of course, having been in Metuchen for a long time, having raised kids and started my business here, it isn’t going to be an easy move. The actual move is daunting (especially packing up my studio!) but if we have learned anything over the past year it’s that we can do many hard things. Morganton offers access to hiking, kayaking, and trail running all nearby, so ultimately the effort it takes to move will be worth it. I can’t wait to establish my studio space and settle into that community, working alongside many talented artists. Entering into my 5th decade, I’m ready for this adventure!
