The Burke Arts Council chandelier

It’s funny how certain projects unfold in their own unhurried time. Last December, I blogged about installing this steel and dichroic glass chandelier at the Burke Arts Council (you can read that post in my Blog Archive from December 12, 2023). The project, from concept to completion, took over a year. It was a lot of fun collaborating with Josh Smith of The Metaled Company and exploring the artistic intersection of steel and glass but our process was sometimes astonishingly slow. The photo that accompanied that blog post was a quick snap from my cell phone on installation day. Now, almost a year later, I finally have professional photographs of the chandelier. I’m not sure if this particular piece exists in its own little space/ time bubble but I am grateful to finally have professional photos. John captured the glass and steel from a number of different angles and distances. While the photo above, my favorite, shows the overall chandelier, some of the others highlight the magic of the dichroic glass or, as Josh put it, the “sexy shape” of the steel. I’m posting those additional photos on social media so take a look on Facebook or Instagram (and follow me there!) to see them. Or if you’re near Morganton, head over to the Burke Arts Council to see it in person.
