My kids would be the first to tell you: I am not techy! The have teased me for years for using a paper calendar. I often blame it on the fact that I am a stained glass artist and that medium isn’t exactly known to attract people with a love of technology. A few weeks ago, I mentioned to my women’s artist group that I was having problems with a drawing I was working on. I have been commissioned to create a stained glass window where the main feature is a beach house. I have a photograph I’m working from but I was having trouble with the perspective. My friend, Kim Adlerman, suggested an app she had recently started using called Procreate. After we laughed about the name for a minute, she pulled out her iPad and began showing us how it worked. I immediately recognized the benefits although I was a bit intimidated by the technology. But the joy in life is exploring new things so I got brave, pulled out my checkbook, and now I also have Procreate (and a new iPad because my previous one was too old to run the app). The bonus is that the Apple store offers free classes to get you started. Side note, the Apple store offers a TON of classes and the staff members who teach them are the real deal. Anton, pictured on the screen behind us, is one hell of an artist and he spent far more than the allotted time teaching us and patiently answering all of our questions. You might also notice Kim holding up her self portrait that she drew in class; mine was a “work in progress.” There is definitely a learning curve but I think with practice, this technology might eventually be my friend. But I am NOT giving up my paper calendar!
