I’m finishing up this commission for a client who asked me to preserve a special rose as an anniversary gift for his wife. I developed a model for the container and told him I would play around with a support structure to hold the rose upright inside. He was flexible with the overall design and was excited that I would construct something unique for them. Initially my plan was just to create the container but when I finished, I felt like it needed some pizzazz. I showed it to my daughter who has a great artistic eye and mentioned I was thinking of adding some embellishments to the top. She suggested repeating the coil that is inside and thought it would be fun to add some dangley elements to it as well. I came up with a plan to create a half dozen little glass hearts and drilled through them so they can move around a bit on the coil. In previous projects, I have used a coil to represent the ups and downs of life. Every marriage has those same highs and lows and, in a strong one, love is always there. Happy anniversary and best wishes for many wonderful years together!
