I love creating stained glass flowers during these cold winter months. This piece, designed for a sunny window in my client’s beach house in Lavallette, NJ, is comprised of 4 different types of flowers. Although it’s hard to see at this stage of the process, the gardenias are very intricate with lots of small, curved pieces. The orchids are created with the most beautiful yellow and pink glass that will come to life with the sun shining through them. The poinsettia radiates warmth and the daffodils will be bright and full of joy. My client wanted this piece to honor the memory of his deceased wife who loved flowers and we took a good amount of time working through the arrangement. The process has been emotional but I think, and hope, also healing for him. There are still probably another 3-4 weeks worth of work to finish the piece and get it ready for installation. So for now, I am grateful to be in my warm studio in January, cutting glass and enjoying the bright, happy colors of flowers.
