Last week, I installed this window in a lovely beach home in Lavallette, NJ. When I say I installed it, that actually isn’t quite right. I was grateful to have Frank Francobandiero, of Franco Renovations, high up on the ladder with his air compressor hammer in one hand and this window carefully in his other hand. For a job like this, having his expertise and care was invaluable. The window is up in the peak of my client’s roof so it bathes in brilliant sunshine. This photo was taken on a drizzly morning and the light coming through it, even through the clouds, made the glass glow. As I shared in my blog post on January 10, this window was designed to honor my client’s beloved wife who has passed. The flowers selected were her favorites and are now a visual tribute to her life. The blue/ green background glass has ripples like the ocean, a further reminder of their love of this location. Prior to the installation, Frank and I had an important discussion about how to make the window appear to be permanent but also to allow the option for it to be easily removed in the future if that becomes necessary. With a piece this personal, my client and his family need to be able to take it with them if they ever decide to move. So Frank used a flexible moulding that he carefully affixed with tiny nails so the window will stay in place until a time in the future where they decide to remove it. Until then, I hope these joyful flowers bring a warm reminder of my client’s wife and the love they shared.
