About three years ago, I was commissioned to create a gift for the daughter of one of my client’s best friends. The daughter was having her bat mitzvah and my client wanted to give her a thoughtful gift that she would have the rest of her life. After discussing some options, she decided on a jewelry box and, because the daughter’s name was Dahlia, we decided to use that flower as the imagery for the top of the box. (You can see the finished product here.) Now, Dahlia’s younger sister is celebrating her bat mitzvah. Her mom asked her what she wanted as a gift and she said she also would like a personalized jewelry box. My client brought me Ariella’s invitation and we talked through options to make it special for her. The flowers on Ariella’s invitation were done in a more graphic style with bolder colors. Using Procreate, I developed a bunch of sketches which I shared with my client, who shared them with her friend, who shared them with her daughter, who ultimately selected this design. Because the bat mitzvah is a plane ride away and my client is traveling alone with her toddler, I helped her pack the jewelry box which she mailed out last week and it arrived there safely earlier this week. Anticipating that both my client and I would want to see Ariella’s reaction, her mom took a video of her opening the box and the look on her face when she took it out was pure joy. Apparently now the mom wants a jewelry box too! I’m honored that my client trusted me with an important gift like this; I’m always thrilled when clients come back again because the gift was well received. Mazel tov to you, Ariella!
