When I named my business nearly 20 years ago, I went with “Paradise” because I liked the idea that each of us has our own vision of what that means. That is significant to me since custom work is about creating what my customers want; a piece of art that someone lives with in their home should reflect what brings them joy. Recently, I met with a client who had seen a window on my website that I had made for a previous client and he said he wanted me to remake that for him. But the more we talked, the more he started referencing different things that he liked. He shared some images of Napa, CA and we started talking about that imagery. I sketch that landscape with a bottle of wine, customized with the initial of his last name and the date he moved into his home. This window is a work-in-progress— all that copper foil will disappear under the lead that will hold the pieces together. After that, I’ll apply patina and the glass will become more prominent. With the current conditions in the US, drifting away to Napa to relax in a vineyard with a glass of wine felt like the best option. Cheers to our personal vision of paradise, even if it’s only in our minds!
