Even though we are less than six weeks away from moving, I still am finishing up a number of commissions. I will be installing this one over the weekend in a gorgeous Cape May beach house and, as part of my farewell NJ tour, I’m going to try to squeeze in a little beach time! I designed the stained glass window to fit inside this beautiful frame which I will installed into a custom made door, both of which were built by Cape Island Woodworks. With the house number painted in the center, it’s a practical window and the glass selected will offer privacy to the inside space. You can see to the left of the window is a little sliver of siding that the customer provided me to which I matched the blue glass of the window. It was a difficult match as the available glass was all just a slight shade off. I finally selected this blue as the closest match and then painted it and fired it in the kiln in an effort to get it just a little bit closer. This photo was taken with no light coming through the glass so that will change the look as well. Without much light, it’s hard to tell that the band of glass around the number is red but, with light coming through, it will be much more vibrant. I’ll post some photos on my Instagram once it’s installed. And maybe I’ll post a few of the ocean too; I’ll want to look back on those when we are in North Carolina.
