Custom stained glass windows at Lake James

I recently completed a commission that was both challenging and incredibly fulfilling to create. My client, who has a beautiful home on Lake James, wanted unique stained glass to enhance the windows above his front door. During our initial discussion about design possibilities, he expressed his desire for one window to depict Table Rock mountain with an eagle flying above it and the other to feature Linville Falls, complete with a blue hydrangea bush. I initially experimented with an AI drawing program, hoping to gain some fresh inspiration but the results were odd, to say the least. Determined to create something truly special, I went “back to the old drawing board,” using pencil and paper to sketch out the designs. There is something profoundly satisfying about the tactile process of drawing by hand, especially for such personal and meaningful projects.

Last night, my husband and I installed the finished stained glass windows. This moment is always the highlight of the process—seeing the completed pieces in their forever home, illuminated by natural light. The transformation is magical as the colors and textures of the glass come to life.
